About Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Illustrator is a professional vector graphics software used by designers for creating digital artwork. It fits into a broader design workflow, enabling users to craft everything from individual design elements to full compositions. Illustrator is commonly used for making posters, logos, icons, symbols, patterns, and much more.

Vector vs. Raster
Computer graphics are generally divided into two categories: vector and raster graphics. Knowing the difference between these types is crucial for creating, editing, and importing artwork correctly.

What are Vectors?
Illustrator and similar programs create vector graphics, which are made up of lines and curves defined by mathematical formulas known as “vectors.” These vectors describe the graphic based on its geometry. For instance, a bicycle tire in a vector image would be represented by a mathematical equation defining a circle with a set radius, placed at a specific location, and filled with a particular color. You can resize, move, or change the color of this tire without losing quality because the underlying equations adjust accordingly.

Since vector graphics are resolution-independent, they can be scaled to any size and printed on any device at any resolution while maintaining sharpness and clarity. This makes them ideal for type (especially small text) and bold graphics that need to remain crisp even when resized.

All About the Basics and Beyond
Illustrator’s interface shares similarities with other Adobe programs, like Photoshop or InDesign, so if you’re familiar with these, navigating Illustrator will feel intuitive. However, for those new to Adobe software, the interface might initially seem overwhelming.

Fortunately, Illustrator’s workspace can be broken down into manageable sections for easier understanding. We’ll start with the main toolbox on the left side and gradually explore other parts of the interface.
